Kaylie and Alyssa had surgery today to have their tonsils and adenoids taken out. Both were a little worried going into it but getting new jammies and slippers, fun meals and having their favorite meal the night before (corn flake fried chicken, mashed potatoes and corn) helped keep them calm.
We were scheduled pretty early in the morning but as we were walking into the building we got a phone call that someone else had cancelled and they wanted to move us up so in we went after getting big hugs from big brother Taylor and Grammy to immediately start getting prepped. We were all very thankful when they let both girls go back together to get dressed in their gowns and talk with their anesthesiologist, surgeon and nurses. They put them in one prep room together and both were laughing and happy.
When it came time to take Kaylie back the girls hugged, Daddy gave big hugs and off mom went to hold Kaylie’s hand as she fell asleep.
We waited for about an hour during Kaylie’s surgery and Alyssa was so excited to go back for hers until we heard Kaylie down the hall screaming and crying. Alyssa cried and cried because Kaylie was so upset and didn’t want to have her surgery. I was able to hold her for a few minutes before I was asked to come help calm Kaylie down. I gave my hugs and left to go help. Daddy and Alyssa were able to walk to the operating room shortly after where it took Alyssa a little bit longer to fall asleep because she was upset.
Poor little Kaylie was in so much pain and so scared not knowing where she was. She was thrashing around all over the bed and pulling out her IV. She just kept saying “Momma my throat hurts and I want to go home”. As we were getting her calmed down, Dad came in and we were able to transfer her from her bed into Daddy’s arms. She was able to move to her recovery room pretty quickly and immediately started eating popsicles and watching cartoons. Taylor was able to come back and hold her hand for a few minutes before she fell back asleep and waited for Alyssa.
As Alyssa came out she too was crying but had a much different reaction than Kaylie. She cried and cried and was so panicked. She kept talking about not being able to see or breathe and said her heart was hurting. She also kept saying “momma my throat hurts” and asked to go home. She also kept crying for Taylor so Taylor was brought in to help her calm down and hold her hand. It took her a little bit longer to be able to be moved but soon she joined Kaylie in the recovery room so they could rest.
They slept most of that time and by the time it was time to go home they were both walking around and chatting away. They even said that they wanted to stay so that they could be with the nice nurse who was from England.
We are so happy to have them home and feeling so great. They are doing great at eating their popsicles, watching movies, reading and coloring. They are loving their visitors and the goodies that they are bringing! We are already having to remind them that they can’t talk and get up to play.
So proud of my little babies and so proud of Taylor for being such a great support to them! Thank you for everyone’s thoughts, well wishes and prayers. A big thanks to all that have called and are coming by to visit. It means a lot to all of us!
Love them! What strong little girls! And what a brave Mom & Dad!!
