We are so glad that you are visiting our blog. It is here that you can learn all about This Jones Family and all that we do

This Jones family began in 1997 when Greg and I started as friends over a Christmas break. That friendship soon turned to a relationship and as time passed by, we kept growing together, not really knowing that we were building our future together. Three years after we started dating, we made our first commitment to create a family together and promised forever to eachother. Taylor was born in 2000 and two years later he became a big brother to twin girls Kaylie and Alyssa. We're a small little family that loves to spend all of our time together. This is how our story began, please check back frequently to see how our family continues.

DSC03150 We had so much fun last year that we had to make it an annual thing and go back again this year.  And our little trip is growing in participants.  This year we added Melissa, Adam and Kaitlyn to our trip.

DSC03124 We all had so much fun playing in the water, sledding down the dunes and building things in the sand.  DSC03057

And then….as if hours of all of that wasn’t enough…we decided we would add  a little more to our little excursion and visit Zapata Falls. The brochure told us this: Drive three miles up the gravel road…walk a 1/2 mile to the creek…wade up stream to the narrow cave.  Creek can be deep and swift at times. Watch for falling rock.

So as if that wasn’t already enough to warn us….we soon leanred that the brochure should say this: Drive 3 miles up a narrow rocky ridge where you’re kids will open their mouth and let their voice vibrate the whole time.  Park your car and begin your hike upwards for a 1/2 mile on a rocky path.  Get to the white capped, extremely fast rushing “creek” and figure out how you will climb the slippery rocks as far as you can without getting in the water.  Once you get to the part where you can no longer avoid the water, prep yourself for your children’s screams the minute they touch the ice cold water.  As quickly as you can, jump from rock to rock in the calf high water to the next spot that you can get to that is out of the water so that your feet can warm up.  From there, realize that half your group will not make it and watch them return down to the beginning.  With your children, wait on the rock in the middle of the “creek” while your husband carries each of them one at a time, further up the creek in now thigh high ice cold water, through the cave that could have falling rocks so that they can see the ledge of ice and water fall.  Afterwards, figure out how to make your way back down, keeping your kids safe and while you are trying not to die on the slippery ledge that has no foot holds, watch some stranger cuddle your kids while they cry.  Afterwards, enjoy your feet that you can no longer feel and all the fun pictures you got!

With that said…we had a blast and i am still laughing at this experience!!

  2. HAHA awesome!! Looks like fun (except for the freezing feet & crying children) but what an experience! Next year maybe we will pretend we are in your family & join. Joe and I were looking at the pics, remembering the last times we were each there-we were both very young! We'd love to go back!

  3. Wow! We still have not been to the Sand Dunes. Seems like we never have time. And your trip to the falls sounded like so much fun. LOL we never would have gotten past the water part. Lilly would have freaked out Abby would have jumped head first in! But it looked very cool!
